Sliding gates made of steel are used to separate and close off areas inside buildings in case of fire. The closing mechanism of the gate is controlled by a signal from an electronic fire alarm system (FAS) or manually by pressing a button. They are most commonly used in service halls, warehouses, plants and similar business areas.
Fire resistance:
- Type: TLB/M – fire resistance EI (EW) 15-60 and EI (EW) 60-120 of single and double gate respectively. Gates can also be made with an embedded door (maximum clearance 1000 x 2000 mm).
- Type: TLB/H – fire resistance EI 15-60, EW 15-120.Gates can also be made with an embedded door
Gates can be made as follows:
- horizontally sliding (single or double gate)
- telescopic
- horizontally sliding
- push-out
Technical description
Requirements for installation
Gates are installed in clean openings of buildings that have finished floors having their height marked exactly if possible.
The building’s opening must have a solid header joist along the entire length of the gate’s path of movement (also at the point where the gate moves out) which will make it possible to firmly attach the moving mechanism (concrete overlay or steel section). It is also necessary that the building management secures a fire alarm signaling system (FAS). If not, it will be necessary to use smoke detectors with a control panel and electrical power supply of 220V.
Caution – With respect to the gate’s heavy weight its movement mechanism cannot be mounted on drywall construction and gates with larger dimensions (over 9 m 2 cm) cannot be reliably mounted on poro-thermal bricks type HEBEL. Sides of the building’s opening must be cleaned and allow the grip of a moving post onto a side fire resistant labyrinth.
Function and operation of sliding gates
The operating mechanism of gates can be gravitational or automatic.
- The gravitational closing mechanism uses weights to get the gate into a closing position with the help of a cable. Closing takes place after transmission of the FAS signal or manually pressing the control button. In this manner electrical charge to the magnet is interrupted and the weights close the gate. In case there is no FAS system in the building, the gate is closed after a signal is sent from smoke detectors connected to the control box. The gate is open manually by pushing it into a fully open position. In this position the gate is gripped by an electro magnet and remains open.
- With the automatic mechanism the gate’s movement is enabled by an electric motor operated by push-buttons. Only in case of fire the counterweight will close the gate.
